Commitment to Diversity
My Staff
This year, we tried something new.

We thought, "Hey. We're all the same. We're in this together, and we are one."

We wanted unity in our photos and not just the same background. It was really difficult to decide, and we even received a complaint for the photos' color.

But we are truly different from each other. We all contribute different qualities to the paper, whether it be our organization, leadership, or just an outstanding personality.

This is our way of highlighting our differences while accepting that we are one. In each photo, you can see the personality shine through the lens.
Ever since 8th grade, I have researched the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. My passion for writing came to use when I decided to compile all of my research into a novel. A New Perception covers topics such as overcoming ignorance and poor representation of the Deaf community in the media. My publisher, Writer's Republic, nominated my manuscript to the Pulitzer Prize in the Fiction category. Although, winning awards isn't nearly what I'm striving for. My main goal is to inform others on underheard and misrepresented communities by creating a story that is relatable. I hope to do that in journalism, too.
Hear This, a Florida Non-Profit and 501(c)(3), was made to provide quick news blogs to students' social medias.

Center for Hearing and Communications is where I got most of my D/HH knowledge. I have volunteered at this organization since the beginning of high school. This is where I perfected my American Sign Language skills. The picture to the right is one of our events called "The Friendship 5K."
I am currently in my fourth year of American Sign Language. I started in 9th grade with ASL 1 and have taken 2 more courses. During my junior year, ASL was discontinued at my school, so I registered online to take the course on my own time while receiving high school credit. Here is one of my videos:
