At the 2023 FSPA State Convention, I held my own session on "How to Use your Student Voice to Bring Awareness." The purpose of my session was to inform my peers of the dangers of misrepresentation and the importance of getting your facts right. Legal action is the most threatening civil option against journalists, and misrepresentation is at the front of it.

My studies in Deaf culture have allowed me to recognize how underrepresented communities are treated in the media.

At the 2023 FSPA District 7 Workshop, I held a session three times about the same topic. With heavy attendance in all sessions, I knew that this topic was in dire need for my peers. A girl actually came up to me and said, "what if you don't have time to research communities in-depth when writing a story?" I said: "don't write it."

The problem with our journalism society today is that many people care for the quantity and not the quality of stories. People mess up names, cultures, and identities wrong almost every day. The fundamental skill of recognizing misrepresentation is key to a bright journalism career.
